Manteigaria has brought golden tones to Madrid’s most colorful neighborhood. Chueca is the Madrid standard-bearer of unconditional inclusion and freedom, the ideal place for the Pastel de Nata to come out of the oven and be for everyone.

The recipe is the same as always: handmade puff pastry, freshly prepared cream, very hot temperatures, and knowing how to wait for the right time. Everything in plain sight, without backstage or secrets.

How to get to Chueca’s Manteigaria

Located across from Gran Vía, Calle Hortaleza is one of Chueca’s main thoroughfares. A 10-minute walk from Malasaña, and less than 15 from Puerta del Sol.

If you come by Metro, Line 1 (Blue) and Line 5 (Green) stop at Gran Vía Station, with Calle Hortaleza just around the corner. If you prefer to get off in the heart of the neighborhood, Line 5 has a station in Chueca, a few steps from the plaza.

By bus, the Gran Vía / Montera stop is served by daytime lines 1, 2, 3, 9, 46, 74, 133, 146 and 147, and by nighttime lines N16, N18, N19, N20 and N21 — all less than a 5-minute walk away. Lines 001 and 002 also stop here and are completely free.

What to do in Chueca while enjoying our pastel de nata

The Plaza de Chueca is the heart of the neighborhood. Terraces open all day, a cosmopolitan atmosphere, and the metro station right next door. This is where you feel the pulse of Chueca and its community.
The Mercado de San Antón is two minutes away, on Calle Augusto Figueroa. It has three floors with fresh produce, restaurants, and a rooftop bar. For dessert, head to Manteigaria, where you can enjoy a warm Pastel de Nata and an espresso.
Plaza Pedro Zerolo is dedicated to the historic Madrid activist and politician, a symbol of the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. A space for memory and gathering, surrounded by the bars and places that made the history of the neighborhood.
At Palacio de Longoria, headquarters of the SGAE on Calle Fernando VI, the modernist façade is a spectacle visible from the street. The interior, normally closed to the public, opens occasionally for free exhibitions. It’s worth checking the schedule before a visit.
The Museum of Romanticism is located in the former mansion of the Marquis of Matallana. It has an impressive collection of 19th-century furniture, paintings, and decorative arts. A space that preserves the aura of a bygone era.
The Paseo de Recoletos is the counterpoint to the neighborhood’s intense pace. The promenade connects Plaza de Cibeles to Plaza de Colón, a perfect stroll after a Pastel de Nata. Or two.
